Dear Participants,

With COVID-19 being declared a global health emergency crisis, many of us due to nation-wide lockdowns happening all over the world, travel bans, panic, scarcity of resources and the pandemic itself, can easily lead to anxiety and unchecked feelings of isolation.

Here are some ways you can quarantine not only yourself but the added stress as well:

      • Reframe “I am stuck inside” to “I can focus on my home, my studies and myself.”
      • Stay close to your normal routine as much as you can.
      • A chaotic home can lead to a chaotic mind. Try to keep the inside organized, neat and clean.
      • Avoid obsessing over endless Coronavirus news coverage. Limit your screen time!!!
      • Start a new quarantine ritual. Pick up a brush and learn to draw, paint, cook, bake, or start writing something.
      • Don’t check the health bulletin obsessively. You are risking your mental peace and also of those around you by checking Coronavirus numbers daily.
      • Keep an optimistic mindset.
      • Practice good self-care.

Stay on top of your study load and manage your time well to keep your stress levels down.

Try the following:

a) Create a STUDY SPACE for yourself.

b) Remind yourself why you’re here.

c) Plan ahead by making a WEEKLY PLAN.

d) Get Enough Sleep.

e) Exercise regularly.

f) Maintain a good study/life balance.

g) Avoid Procrastination.

Moreover, make sure to attend all your online classes regularly on time and stay in touch with your academic adviser via email & phone. If your studies have been impacted by the current situation, then speak to your adviser in the first instance for an appointment to conduct an online academic advising session with you on Zoom to discuss your issues.

Fortunately, most pandemics disappear almost as quickly as they begin. Getting proactive about your academic, physical, and psychological well-being can help you in managing both your grades and mental health during these difficult times of stress and uncertainty.

Stay home, stay safe, happy and healthy!

Dear UMT Family

With reference to above mentioned subject, ZOOM send their Product updates which have some security features and User interface change. Please see the below Youtube Video which guides you that how to use updated Zoom version.

Dear Participants,

Assalam o Alaikum

We hope and pray that you are all fine and keep on observing the Government policy in the best interest of the public to stay at home.

Here I must appreciate your dedication and focused approach of continuously improving your e-learning skills which not only set aside the fear of any loss of your education during this testing time but also proves to be a part of a nation having a spirit where sky’s the limit.

At the same time I also assure you all that your faculty and management is striving hard and also taking care of each concern of the UMT students with a commitment to provide the best solution to support the academic requirements as deemed necessary.

Since, it has been decided that to facilitate the students during this phase of e-learning following evaluation criteria shall be applicable; therefore all students are being informed accordingly.

§  Sessional Evaluation (through Quizzes, Assignments, Projects, Presentations etc) : upto 40%

Examinations shall be conducted once classes resume physically on campus or in the light of directions received from HEC (Higher Education Commission). Moreover, the practical classes/labs missed during the lockdown shall also be conducted at that time.

Still if it is required to have a crash program for the remote areas students who are registered in Spring 2020, University will execute it to cater for the needs and that students are not deprived of quality education.

Respected Faculty UMT,

It has been reported from our valuable faculty members that during their online class session some unknown participants jump into the session and create disturbance. As these attendees are using their personal email address therefore it is almost impossible to recognize these people.

In the solution to this, OTS has configured UMT Official Zoom cloud Server so that only the participants who are using Zoom through their UMT official email address can only join online sessions.

To ensure this option faculty has to make some configurations while scheduling the meeting session. This option is mandatory for all faculty. Attached video will guide you all to the required configuration.

We humbly request all UMT Faculty members please Follow the instruction carefully and manage your class room with proper SOP’s it will provide you more comfort to deliver a online lecture .

Looking forward, and always available for your support.

Respected Registrar UMT:  Please send an email to UMT participant both Lahore and Sialkot to attend online classes using their official UMT email address.

[Disclaimer] Please do not share your Zoom/Email/LMS account password with anyone. Any activity of these accounts will be your responsibility.

Dear Participants,

COVID-19 outbreak has created unimaginable problems for human beings throughout the world. Social distancing has become the most important measure to restrict spread-out of the virus. Closure of industries, markets, offices, educational institutions and lockdown of towns, cities and countries has also very serious consequences for the economies of the countries.

Children, obviously, do not understand the seriousness of the prevailing conditions and they may be happy with the holidays due to forced closure of schools. But the educated adults, especially, University students would surely be concerned about the losses incurred due to closure of universities. In Pakistan, families transform when their sons / daughters complete their degrees and pursue successful professional careers. Educated men and women can transform not only their families, but also their societies, towns, cities and countries.

I'm confident that the majority of University students would be highly concerned due to closure of universities. Online classes are a viable option for continuation of teaching and learning under the prevailing conditions. We are fully aware that some areas certainly have problems in internet connectivity. But, Alhamdo-Lillah, an overwhelming majority of our students have the necessary facilities. Should online classes be stopped, because some of the students do not have the required facilities? We must take care of the majority of our students with the help of online classes and workout alternate arrangements for the students, living in areas lacking internet connectivity.

We may have an accelerated Summer program for the students from areas lacking in internet connectivity. We sincerely desire that none of our students loses Spring semester 2020. Loss of one semester for 25,000 students of UMT students is a huge loss for the students, the faculty, the parents, the University and the country.

Dear UMT Participants,

As you are well aware of the current situation going on due to COVID-19 pandemic. UMT has taken the lead and started online classes for the continuity of education of its participants. In order to secure the future of its participants UMT has obtained the licensed zoom to facilitate you through uninterrupted online classes.

Now it is nearly two weeks of classes and UMT is well aware of the fact that remote areas participants are facing challenges as they surely have no internet access or some other issues. UMT wants to facilitate its remote area participants by giving them the option to freeze Spring 2020 semester if they want to do so. These students can join in the next semester being offered at the University and their fee for this quarter will be carried forward to the next quarter.

However, for all other participants online classes will continue as normal. We are striving hard to make things simpler and easier for you. University understands that a number of participants want to finish their degrees on time and are proud of that UMT has taken lead in offering online classes to its participants without any delay. UMT faculty is dedicated and putting in their utmost efforts for smooth learning and understanding.

In this context, those remote areas participants who wish to freeze their Spring 2020 semester are required to submit a formal application by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject “Remote Areas Semester Freeze Request” before April 07, 2020. All applications will be verified/validated by Dr. Arshad Ali Khan who is the focal person for Remote Areas Participants.

May Allah shower his blessings on all of us and keep you and your family safe.

Dear UMT Participants,

We hope and pray that this email finds you well. May Allah Kareem keep all of us safe and help our country come out of this pandemic virus of COVID-19. We understand that online education is not a replacement of physical class activity but University must be appreciated and you must feel proud that we have taken the initiative to safeguard your future and impart you quality education at your doorstep.

      • As you are aware, management of UMT took the decision of offering online classes to save your precious time and ensure that no disaster can hinder your journey towards learning and leading. Your cooperation in adapting to the new mode of learning has been phenomenal and we assure you that everyone at UMT including faculty and staff is working day and night to facilitate your learning.
      • Government and HEC have jointly notified for online classes keeping in view to secure the future of the students as being introduced in other countries as well. You should be proud that UMT is taking the lead for online education to safeguard the future of its students.
      • University has a complete record of students from remote areas such as Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, FATA, PATA, remote areas of Punjab, KPK, Interior Sindh, etc. where online access is not available. We consider these issues and there would be a crash program of special classes for such students as soon they physically reach the university and will not be deprived of quality education.
      • University is well aware of the different problems related to load shedding and poor internet quality. Please be assured that all your concerns are being considered for making rapid improvements. There will be no irrational penalty on such students.
      • University is trying to strike a deal with the service providers through PTA for better provision of bandwidth for its students.
      • Rest assured that for assessments there would be a pragmatic view and students would not be irrationally penalized.
      • Practical oriented labs will be scheduled once students will be physically present in the University.
      • Faculty is fully committed and dedicated to facilitate the students and is willing to an extra mile.
      • To address the concerns about the quality of online education, university is deploying interdependent quality assessors for each course. Any quality issue is being immediately addressed. The faculty members have also increased their availability for your counseling and advising.

With your cooperation, we will ensure that you will be able to complete your degrees on-time while ensuring that real learning takes place through online classes. Let’s defeat this pandemic through our resolve to learn and lead.

We wish you best of luck!

Dear Participants,

"If Allah afflicts you with any hardship, there is none to remove it except He. And if He intends to bring some good to you, none can avert His bounty. He brings it to whomever He wills from among His servants. He is the Most Forgiving, the Very Merciful."  Surah Yunus:107

These are indeed very testing times. We are facing a unique extraordinary pandemic the world has not seen a scale of. We all need to be extremely watchful of ourselves, our loved ones and our community. Given the tenacity of our Pakistani people and especially our youth, I am extremely sure we will successfully come out of this very soon.

People in every part of UMT are working very hard to protect the health and safety of the University community while preserving our students’ opportunity to complete their term. We are doing everything to the utmost to make sure we responsibly deal with this situation. Rest assured we will not compromise the learning of our participants or the safety of our faculty and staff. UMT faculty will also not cease our main objective and effort to continue to impact the world through our research and thought-leadership.

As soon as we heard the news of the virus & keeping the safety of UMT family paramount, we planned to go online regardless of the government's advice. UMT Management, specially OTS and eUMT in addition to the heads of statutory offices, played a key role and spent weekends on making sure there was no loss of learning for our participants. I want to commend their exceptional efforts and extreme hard work. May Allah give them reward.
I also want to make a special mention of all Deans, CODs, UMOs & other essential staff for continuing to be present to ensure basic functioning of the university.
Once we received the circular from HEC, I believe, we were the first in Punjab to totally transition online with 2,700 courses and a hundred online classes being held simultaneously. On the first day, we had around 10,000 online learners: a remarkable feat. I believe out of all conventional universities, this is the largest online setup being currently run. I want to thank our valuable participants for showing great commitment (90%+ avg. class attendance) and our highly dynamic faculty for participating in this cause to make sure learning and knowledge transfer continued, no matter what.
To keep you all safe on the campus, OCMS distributed masks, sanitizers and sprayed disinfectants in the campus buildings every few hours throughout the week.
All faculty and participants are required to make use of technology and to fully and extensively use moodle, telephones, myUMT app, email, & WhatsApp so you are in regular touch with each other regarding your courses, counselling or any other matter. We are also continuously improving the online system, organizing trainings and then focusing on retraining the faculty for this transition.

I would like to thank the many students and others who have come forward to voice their concerns, share their experiences and offer advice on improving services. Let me say that we have listened. We have heard you, and we will continue to do so. We share your concerns, and we are strongly committed to collaborating with you to address them.

Given the record exponential spike in the number of cases in Pakistan, we cannot predict when it will be safe to restart classes in person. My guess is that it may take another 2-8 weeks depending on the situation. We are considering and discussing options and will decide whatever is best for all.

Remember, we all have to act together to slow down the spread of this virus.

For prevention,

Prophet Muhammad SW's hadith gives guidance to all, "Cleanliness is half of faith."
Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment but that does not mean you do not take precautions.

For those who may have symptoms, please self-quarantine yourself until tested.

It is also advised to totally stop socializing

unnecessarily

, prefer to meet virtually and to maintain a physical distance of 3 feet.

At the same instance, it is a great opportunity to spend time with your family, on your personal development, your fitness & health, on self-reflection and on being empathetic.

For all

administrative

issues, advisors, CODs, PRS at ORG and participants should be in touch.

For those of you who may be facing anxiety, stress or mental health issues due to this pandemic, you may contact

[email protected] or

[email protected] at UMT Institute of Clinical Psychology for counselling appointments.

Lastly, through the UMT Sustainable Development Initiative we have planned to provide food ration boxes for a month for 5000 daily wage workers affected from Corona. Please contact [email protected]k if you may like to assist or volunteer.
May Allah, The Creator & Sustainer keep us all safe.

This is a testimony of our resilience in fighting the global disaster through our collective resolve.

Dear Faculty Members and Participants,

It is very encouraging to see that you have been making gradual progress with the online lectures. We have received record of many classes in which attendance was more than 90%. This speaks a lot about the determination of UMT’s participants and faculty members for continuing the process of knowledge acquisition in this difficult time.

However, some classes were not held on Monday and Tuesday, whereas, in some other classes the attendance was low. In this context, both the faculty members and students are requested to ensure maximum attendance in the class keeping in view that holding of lectures and marking of attendance as per the timetable of Spring 2020 is Mandatory.

Through the cooperation of Faculty, Students, and UMT’s Administration, we are moving towards a leadership position in Pakistan’s academia for offering online/live education using digital technologies.

This is a testimony of our resilience in fighting the global disaster through our collective resolve.

Weekly edition | March 13, 2020

This week's top story is brought to you by Ms. Zarnab Shakeel Haq

COVID-19 is a highly infectious respiratory disease caused by a new coronavirus. The disease was discovered in China in December 2019 and has since spread around the world.

free online summit is available to everyone who wants to remain fully up-to-date about coronavirus and its potential associated effects.

Furthermore, it’s a great opportunity to see how quality information sharing and instruction can take place in a 100% virtual environment.

Kindly scroll down to learn more about the entire virtual schedule of events as well as further information related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Where does COVID-19 come from?

The virus and disease were first detected in Wuhan, China on December 31, 2019, and, as of the beginning of March 2020, have led to an outbreak in over 60 countries across the globe, including the US. Officials in Pakistan said the number of coronavirus cases in the country has risen to 21, noting that eight of them were imported from Syria (VOA).

While the coronavirus disease is popularly referred to as just coronavirus, coronavirus actually refers to a large family of viruses which can cause illnesses in humans and many animals. Some of these illnesses are rare but severe respiratory infections, including Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), and, as most recently discovered, COVID-19.

On February 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially named this novel coronavirus COVID-19COVID is short for coronavirus diseaseThe number 19 refers to the fact that the disease was first detected in 2019, though the outbreak occurred in 2020.

The technical name of the virus that causes COVID-19 is severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, abbreviated as SARS-CoV-2COVID-19 is genetically related to, but not the same as, the virus that led to the SARS outbreak in 2003. SARS is deadlier than COVID-19, but less infectious.

Coronaviruses contain RNA and are spherical. Under a microscope, the viruses appear to be surrounded by a spiky array thought to look like a corona, or crown-like shape, hence the name coronavirus. The source of the new coronavirus is believed to be an animal. The virus spreads through droplets from the mouth and nose of a person with COVID-19 after coughing, sneezing, and exhaling.

Other people can then pick up the virus by breathing in these droplets or coming into contact with surfaces that have been contaminated with the droplets (such as by touching an object and then touching parts of the face).

This is why it’s important to frequently wash your hands—among other practices—to reduce the risk of spreading or getting the virus. Please watch this video from the WHO for tips on protecting yourself and others from COVD-19:

Common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, dry cough, and difficulty breathing. Less common symptoms experienced include aches and pains, a runny nose, and diarrhea. Some people infected with COVID-19, however, don’t show symptoms or feel sick at all.

According to the WHO, most people (80%) recover from COVID-19. However, COVID-19 can develop into a severe illness, especially in older people or people who already have medical conditions.

WHO has officially classified the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic, which it defines as “a worldwide spread of a new disease.” The US government has declared a public health emergency. So far, COVID-19 has caused over 4,200 deaths, and over 118,000 cases have been confirmed around the world.

 Reserve your spot
