Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Students Attending Online Lecture Sessions with Zoom and Moodle LMS

Listed below are the frequently asked questions generally inquired by students that are participating in live lecture sessions using Zoom online conferencing tool and Moodle LMS.

1. How do I attend my classes? 

You must log in to the LMS to attend your live classes. Your instructor has scheduled live lectures through the LMS and you can access it directly from there.

2. What if I forget the Moodle LMS password? 

In case you forget the Moodle LMS password, reset it by following these guidelines:

  • Visit lms.umt.edu.pk
  • Click “Forgot Username and Password” option or simply open the reset password link https://lms.umt.edu.pk/moodle/login/forgot_password.php
  • Enter either your UMT student ID or UMT email account and press the search button
  • Login in to your UMT official Gmail account ([email protected]), you will receive a reset email from the Moodle supervisor.
  • Click on the reset link
  • In the next page enter your UMT Student ID and new password and confirm the new password.

3. How can I reset Online Student Portal? 

Follow the directions given below to reset online student portal:

  • Visit online.umt.edu.pk > Student portal
  • Press ‘Reset Password’
  • In the pop-up, enter either your UMT student ID in the Username field or UMT email account and press ‘Send Reset Link button’
  • Login in to your UMT official Gmail account ([email protected]), you will receive a reset email from OIS Support.
  • Click the reset link In the next page, enter your UMT Student ID and new password and confirm the new password. Please follow the password guidelines for the password mentioned on the screen.
  • If you are still unable to reset the LMS password, email at [email protected]

4. How can I change my Gmail password? 

To Change your password on Laptop or Computer:

  • Open your Google Account. You might need to sign in.
  • Under "Security," select Signing into Google.
  • Choose Password. You might need to sign in again.
  • Enter your new password, then select Change Password.

To Change your password on Android phone

  • On your Android phone or tablet, open your device's Settings app Google Google Account Management.
  • At the top, tap Security.
  • Under "Signing in to Google," tap Password. You might need to sign in
  • Enter your new password, then tap Change Password.

To change your password on Iphone/Ipad

  • On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app . Tap Menu   Settings your account Manage your Google Account. If you don't use Gmail, go to myaccount.google.com.

  • At the top, tap Personal info.

  • Under "Profile," tap Password.

  • Enter your new password, then select Change Password.

5. What is Zoom? 

Zoom is a video conferencing tool/app that is used at UMT to provide live lecture sessions. It provides you with the ability to connect with your instructor as well as your classmates over the internet using your mobiles, laptops, desktops, iPads etc.

6. Do I require any additional technology to access the live lecture sessions? 

You need to ensure that you have Wifi/ data based access to the internet. You can access the live lectures through smartphones, laptops, desktops, iPads etc.

7. How do I sign up for Zoom? 

You can sign up for a Zoom account at zoom.us/signup or install a Zoom app. Click the Sign-Up button and you can login using your official UMT ID and the password. Having a Zoom account will assist you in setting up meetings for group study as well as group projects in the future.

8. How do I activate my Zoom account? 

IF you are logging into Zoom for the first time, you have to activate your Zoom account. After Sign-Up, click request an email option and you will get a link for the Zoom account activation on your UMT official Gmail account. Click on the link/go to Sign-Up to enter a new password and afterwards confirm the new password.

9. What will be the timings of my live/online lecture sessions? 

Your live lecture sessions will be held fully online at their regular scheduled timings, for which the attendance is mandatory. You must login through your Moodle LMS at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start of the live lecture session. The link for your courses’ live lecture sessions will be available to you through the LMS.

10. How will my attendance be marked? 

Your attendance record will be generated on Zoom account after the end of live lecture session. It will mention your name, ID and total duration of your presence in the live lecture conducted by your instructor.

11. What if I miss my class? 

It is mandatory for you to attend all live lecture sessions. In case you missed a live session, it will be marked as absent. However, your instructor will provide a recorded session through the LMS for you to watch. Once again watching a recorded session will help you catch up however, your attendance will still be marked as absent.

12. How will I interact with my instructor during the live sessions? 

You have access to audio, video, chat, screen share features and nonverbal feedback to interact with your instructor. 

  • The in-meeting chat allows you to send chat messages to your instructor. You can send a private message to your instructor or you can send a message to an entire class/participants. 

  • Screen share allows you to not only interact with the instructor but with the whole class; PPT presentations etc.

  • Audio and video features are there as well to communicate.

  • Nonverbal feedback allows you to provide feedback and express opinions by clicking on icons in the panel.

13. How will I attempt quizzes? 

All quizzes are to be submitted through the Moodle LMS in the respective course. Quiz directions are given here however instructors will provide specific guidelines as well.

14. How will I submit my assignments? 

All assignments are to be submitted through the Moodle LMS in the respective course. Assignment directions are given here.

15. How will I post to discussion forums? 

All quizzes and assignments are to be submitted through the Moodle LMS in the respective course.

16. How will I give my presentation to the instructor? 

You can share your screen with your instructor during the online lecture on ZOOM and present your topic. You can further make it interactive by sharing your whiteboard.
